Hands-on with Stone at The Building Crafts College

We were really pleased that Haptic were represented by our very own Dimitris Argyros who participated in this hands-on course on the use of structural stone; which we believe together with other low-embodied carbon and regenerative materials should be used much more in our built-environment as part of the industry’s de-carbonization strategy.

The course comprised designing and building planar and curved arches, making a post-tensioned beam and involved some great collaboration amongst a diverse team including students, practicing architects, engineers and stone-masons (like it should be!) The moment when the formwork was removed to reveal the free-standing structure was memorable.

Many thanks to the whole course teaching team; brilliantly led by Paul Vergonjeanne and Paul Nougayrede and excellent input during the week by Klaas De Rycke, Oliver Wilton from The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL and Pierre Bidaud from The Stonemasonry Company Limited. Many thanks also to Building Crafts College and wonderfully friendly team there for hosting us.
