Restaurant, wine bar and canteen in Haakon VII`s Gate for Lava and Braathen Eiendom. The design of Restaurant Haakon emphasises the importance and responsibility of the designer to relate to surrounding context , when working with an existing building. The ambition was to stress the value of using long-lasting materials and timeless design, rather than trend-based concepts.
Careful use of materials and subtle details creates the main framework and decor, whilst textiles and furniture are
flexible and can be adapted to accommodate changing uses and needs. The duality of usage challenges the way we tend to think of a canteen, and the overall quality of materials and design makes it possible to use the space as a canteen by day and an atmospheric bar in the evening.
