Haptic’s competition entry for the Maritime Visitor Centre in Randaberg, South-West Norway is conceived as a contextually sensitive addition to the beautiful natural landscape.
Located within a harsh coastal and wind-swept environment, the building is composed of a series of interconnected volumes, delicately placed within the site. This enables the visitor to experience the powerful natural elements from a warm and tranquil interior. By night, these spaces are illuminated as to be seen from a distance, acting as a beacon on the water’s edge.
The proposed roof forms ramp up from the ground, creating a procession towards the horizon. This elevates the natural landscape and creates carved spaces underneath to contain the various public functions and supporting technical spaces.
